The marina has men’s and women’s bathrooms, 100% ethanol-free gas pumps, and an extensive store including snacks, drinks, boat supplies, and ice.
Previously named Sawyer Landing from 1992 to 2004, the marina became Peninsula Marina when Tim and Marty Craycroft purchased it in May 2004. The Rubrights purchased the marina in 2019 and are committed to offering the best marina and service available.
The marina currently has 264 slips.
Rubright Marinas was formed in 2017 when Nate and Jim Rubright acquired Gallatin Marina in Gallatin, Tennessee. Ben Rubright joined as an owner when the family purchased Peninsula Marina.
The Rubrights later acquired Barren River State Dock and Marina and The Boathouse at Benders Ferry. Their highest priority is customer satisfaction, with a focus on safe, fun, family-friendly environments across every marina.
Peninsula Marina sits two miles from Barren River Dam, near Glasgow, where Highway 2065 leaves Highway 252. The dam holds back the lake and is operated by the Corps of Engineers, which also sets the water level through the year. The lake drops in late fall and winter to leave room for spring rain, then rises again for the boating season.
A changing lake level is one of the main reasons people keep a boat in a marina slip here rather than trailering it. A ramp that is fine in summer may sit well above the water by midwinter. Our staff watch the water through the year and can tell you how it affects your slip.
The marina opened as Sawyer Landing in 1992. In May 2004, Tim and Marty Craycroft bought it and gave it the Peninsula Marina name. The Rubright family bought it in 2019, and Ben Rubright became a partner in Rubright Marinas at that point. Through all of those years the marina has stayed in the same place, serving the same part of the lake.
The group’s story starts in 2017, the year Jim and Nate Rubright took over Gallatin Marina in Tennessee. The group grew to include the State Dock on this lake and a concierge storage operation in Mount Juliet. The family’s focus is customer satisfaction and a safe, fun place for families, and they keep investing in docks and facilities at every location.
The marina is in Barren County KY, near Glasgow Kentucky, the county seat. Glasgow is close enough for a quick supply run, and the lake is close enough for Glasgow residents to come out after work.
Among the lakes in Kentucky, Barren River Lake stands out for its mostly wooded shoreline. There is open water for cruising and tubing, and plenty of coves for anchoring, swimming and fishing.
Barren River Lake fishing draws anglers after bass, crappie, catfish and more. Coves, creek arms and the seasonal level changes all affect where the fish hold. Ask at the store what people have been catching lately.

A marina that has served the same cove for more than thirty years has learned a lot about the lake around it: how the water moves through the seasons, where the wind funnels on a stormy afternoon, which coves stay calm. Glasgow has grocery stores, restaurants and hardware shops a short drive from the marina, which makes it easy to stock up before a long weekend on the water. Many owners pick up food in town on the way and buy ice and drinks at the marina store when they arrive.
